During a child's youth, the people they come in contact with can affect their outcome in life. I want to be a positive friend in a child's life whether my positivity can benefit a group of children or an individual. I learned and worked with children through my participation with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America for 5 years. I learned extensively on how to better communicate with children, keep them entertained while being safe, and being a positive role model for them. I continue my experiences with the Boy and Girl Scouts, but did not receive professional expertise until my involvement with a nonprofit organization. My task within the organization included caring for a group of children at a variety of ages. Within the group of children I received, there were many children who required special care. I cared for them with more attention and provided them with specific activities that were safe. Part of my experience led me to understand the importance of child safety and the child's recognition of their own safety. I educated them about recognizing and staying away from harm and danger, and increased their knowledge of the many people who are available to help them. During my time working with children and educating them I learn that it is necessary at times where I must be strict yet reasonably fair and fun towards the children. Also, I believe each parent's individual teaching and caring techniques are different for each family, and as a care giver I will maintain a respectful environment by caring for them in the best of my ability with the parent's wishes in mind.
