I have been an au pair in the US for 2 years. In my first year, I was taking care of two boys, who were 3, 5 and 5.5 years old. I used to take them outside a lot, to the playgrounds or parks, where they could ride their bikes, roller blade, play tag or hide-and-seek, and also play sport games like basketball, baseball, tennis or street hockey. At the house we used to do some arts and crafts like finger painting, playing with play-dough, making holiday decorations and birthday cards for their family. I also used to help the older boy with his homework for kindergarten, do their laundry, make simple meals for them and clean their dishes. Occasionally I would take them out to Boston to ride swan boats or go to the Children's Museum or Museum of Science.
In my second year. I was working with a family with four kids, 8, 10, 12 and 14 years old. My responsibilities included: getting them ready for school, driving them to school, doing laundry and dishes, picking them up from school and helping them with homework as well as driving them to other activities. We also often played board games like chess, checkers, cards, monopoly and so on.
Both experiences were great!
