My name is Laura, I'm Brazilian born and I moved to the United States in 2007. I came as an au pair and worked in that capacity for one and a half years. Since then I've been working as a nanny and babysitter and acquired enough experience to make me feel confident that I have a lot to bring to your family.
I am a loving and upbeat person who puts my heart and soul in everything I do in life. I take my job very seriously, and I am a dependable and hard working person. I make every effort to keep the little ones safe, healthy and happy under my care while also providing appropriate limits and consistency in their lives based on parents' direction.
As a full-time student, education is an important part of my life and I encourage the children with whom I work to love and engage in their own education not only by words but by mostly by example (I'm headed to my senior year and so far have been able to keep a 4.0 GPA). I also believe that mental health is developed through unconditional emotional support and, as a caretaker, I seek to develop a warm, welcoming and compassionate relationship with "my" children. I believe my role is to help to raise strong, well-rounded kids, and become an active "agent" of learning not only for academics but also emotional confidence. I don't believe in "watching" the children; rather, I prefer to be engaged in their daily activities (I have no problem sitting on the floor, being silly and getting dirty! ;o)
Watching kids grow and change is fascinating to me, especially young children as they develop their own little personalities. I have lots of experience working with toddlers and school age kids, and some experience with infants (and I'm willing to learn more)! I have a steep learning curve and I'm intuitive as well.
As I mentioned before, I'm a full-time student and some of my time will be devoted to classes. However, outside of those times I am open, available, and flexible.
