I started babysitting when I was 7 years old. That may seem pretty young but it was the seventies and people were a lot more trusting back then I suppose. I grew up in a large extended family who were always busy having kids so I learned at a young age how to care for babies, and have continued into adulthood to be the one who always ends up taking care of the babies when I'm around them. I'm very comfortable with babies especially but am also great with kids up to the ages of around 12. Having turned 40 last year, I find I don't have the same energy I used to in order to keep up with really active little ones, but I still like to engage them in growth (and fun) oriented activities. I hold an art degree with a minor in psychology which has given me a comprehensive understanding of human development and an awareness of the importance in providing the social stimulation children need to grow. I was CPR certified when I used to work at an after school program and truthfully, that certification has expired but I will be seeking out a renewal within the near future. I have also been a nanny for infants here locally in Colorado. I've not been blessed with children of my own which my friends and family comment on what a shame that is since they see me as having natural maternal instincts with kids. My response: I love being around wee ones but I also love being able to hand them back to their parents when our time is up. LOL
