Hi, my name is Laura and I am a 37-year-old mom of 9! Yes that is right I have nine kids. The oldest is 19 and serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the 18 is attending her first year at Snow College, in Ephraim, UT. The 17 and 16 they are both juniors at Riverton High School. The 14 attends South Hills Middle School. Both the 11 and 8 have special needs. One has learning problems due to being abused and neglected and born addicted to drugs. We adopted her when she was three. The other has autism and has mild/moderate hearing loss requiring him to wear hearing aids. They both attend a cluster class at Monte Vista where they work on their own academic levels. Both are about 4 years globally delayed. The 10 and 9 and they go to Bluffdale Elementary. My husband is a computer geek. We have one dog named Rooney, he is a full blooded Brittany Spaniel. (Best dogs ever)
With kids leaving the house and the rest in school full time I decided to do what I love and care for kids. I have been working as a Nanny for a little boy for the last five months but due to financial reason they need to switch him to a group care facility that is cheaper than one on one care. My last day with them will be on October 31st. The mom is one of my references.
With my own children I have dealt with a lot. We have had preemies, failure to thrive, drug addicted children, abused children, dealt with colostomy bags, and I am not afraid to learn. We did foster care for four years before we adopted and we were given the hard to handle children. I was awarded Foster Care Mother of the Year in 2004. I love children and feel there is nothing better I can do with my time then being a positive influence in a child's life.
I believe a nanny is so much more than a babysitter. I believe a nanny is paid to be constantly engaging the children. The kids are learning through play, everything I do with them is teaching. I believe that children need love but they also need limits and that they progress the best when they know what those limits are. I have been CPR and First Aid certified in the past and am willing to get those certifications again if needed. I am looking to be done with my work day by 3:30 p.m. so that I can be home for my children in the afternoons and evenings. I am willing to start in the mornings as early as needed.
