When I was in middle school, my girlfriends and I created our own Babysitters Club. I was so young but knew what I enjoyed and wanted to do; work with kids. I landed my first nanny job while working part-time at the local police station. Where I met a desperate detective and his wife. I worked as a part-time nanny for their 2 children, ages 3 and 10 months for about 2 years. Shortly after my nanny job I was hired at a daycare on my school's community campus; my major was elementary education. The children's ages at the daycare ranged from 2 to 9. The daycare was also a learning facility for the children and for me as well. Each day we created new and exciting activities that would not only stimulate but also educate each child. I was at the daycare for 2 years. During those 2 years I gained valuable knowledge and experience regarding children and how each child is unique. You just need to spend time with each child to discover what their likes and dislikes are and then create activities that will stimulate each individual child. During my time at the daycare, I received my first actual full-time nanny job. A family of a 4-year-old boy, and his 8-year-old sister, who I looked after at my daycare were looking for a babysitter. It wasn't long before I became their full time nanny. I worked from 7-6. My jobs included, getting the kids ready for school, walking to the bus stop, picking up and/or dropping them off at school and any other activities. Cooking, cleaning, and of course entertaining the children. We went to parks, farms, on boat rides, swimming. I was with that family for almost 3 years. That was my last job with kids. I went on to Eastern to continue my major. I now have over 20 hours worth of courses that are solely dedicated to my elementary ed. major. I love being around children, they make me feel young again and they also happen to enjoy all the things I love; animals, walks, parks, sledding, swimming, basically anything outdoors. I know how influential children are their brains are like sponges, absorbing everything you do and say. I believe in being an influential and positive role model because the way a child is raised, their experiences and interactions with others during their childhood, set the foundation for that child's outlook and character for the rest of their lives.
