For three summers in high school, I have been volunteering as a Junior Swim Coach at my local swim team. Through this, I have worked with many kids at once, and have built personal bonds with many of the young swimmers I coach and watch while at the pool. One of those summers, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a child with cerebral palsy, and we created a strong, trusting relationship with each other in and out of the pool.

This volunteering also helped me to confirm my future desire to be a teacher, as I am currently an Elementary Education and Math/Computer Science double major with a minor in Special Education at Boston College. In fall 2011, I completed my first semester of part-time student teaching, shadowing in a kindergarten classroom once a week that had me teach several lessons throughout my time in the classroom. In the past, I have babysat local neighborhood children. I currently serve as a summer nanny for three kids and I also coach my local summer swim team, which I previously volunteered as a junior coach.
