Being the oldest of four kids, I've been put in charge hundreds of times. Since I was about 10 years old, cooking the occasional dinner or being responsible for the supervision of my siblings has been a part of my life. Taking care of my three favorite people has taught me the fundamentals of childcare.
Since then, I've had jobs with other children, some laid back, some very eccentric, both young and old, and I've learned how to work and get along with most types of kids. The most exciting part about being a babysitter is being able to see and experience a little bit of my own childhood with them. Whether we're playing with toys, going to the park, reading a book, or making a midnight snack, it brings me joy to be able to participate and play along. I believe that I'm able to connect with kids better because of my experience and closeness with my own younger siblings, but I also have a strong sense of responsibility because of this as well.
