Caring for children has been a prominent theme throughout my life. From my nephew to baby-sitting to my current part-time job, I have experienced all sides of being a caretaker. I was 10 when my nephew was born so I have had a lot of experience baby-sitting for him, as well as seeking out the few job opportunities in my neighborhood to baby-sit. I have really enjoyed every bit of care-taking. I love interacting and playing with kids and helping them realize their own sense of self. Those reasons have had me wanting to be an elementary education major for quite a while, although I am still unsure what major I will choose. Currently I have a part-time job in which I do more of the behind the scenes parent work for the children. I care for a mother with muscular dystrophy, so I do more of the physical side of parenting: cleaning off kids faces, dishes, laundry, driving the kids to school/activities, etc. I think this is also an important element in being a caretaker, although I do prefer to be engaged in activities with the kids!

Update: What I wrote above I wrote a couple of years ago now so I want to add that I have worked with two families from Care. com now as an after-school nanny and I have loved both of those experiences! Also, I have held two internships working with kids--one in an adoption agency and another this summer 2012 in Chicago working with at-risk youth as a math and reading teacher. I am an Elementary Education major at UW-River Falls, where I transferred to from the University of Minnesota-TC. Thank you for viewing my profile!
