Hello, my name is Katie and I am a second year at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. Besides being a full time student during the school year here at Cal Poly I have invested myself in the San Luis Obispo county in other ways. Currently, I babysit a 2-year-old boy who was born with Spina Bifida, a disease paralyzing him from waste down. I have also babysat for other families in the area, one family in particular being 2 young girls, ages 5 and 8. In the coming quarter I will be nannying this family at least twice a week, picking them up from school and keeping them on task with homework and extra curricular activities. Besides job experience in the San Luis Obispo area, I have cared for other families in my hometown of Lafayette, California. At the age of 14 I started helping a family who had a daughter with autism. The daughter was 4 years old, and she also had two brothers; ages 6 months and 3 years. I helped this family for over three years, being available whenever possible. The most recent job that I have had in Lafayette was as a full time summer nanny. I watched 3 kids; twin 4-year-olds, and a 7-year-old. This job consisted of watching the children, taking children to extra curricular activities, running errands for the family, cleaning the house, cooking meals, overnight stays, and keeping the children on task with summer school homework. I am currently an Agricultural Business major at Cal Poly, but I am in the process of switching to Child Development. I have always had a passion for children and am hoping to pursue a career with children in the future!
