Well, like most girls do, I started baby-sitting at a very young age, usually for families on my street or members of my own family. Baby-sitting felt natural to me because I've always loved children. I've always wanted to be an elementary level teacher (since I can remember), and I have a sister who is 4 years younger than I am. Growing up my mother was a nurse at two hospitals and did work at a clinic on the side. My father works long hours at a factory. At 7 or 8 years old I took it upon myself to be my sister's little guardian. I remember changing diapers, reading bedtime stories, cooking some easy meals, and helping with the housework. As I got older I started volunteering more of my time and eventually got involved with the elementary reading and tutoring program my school offered, and became a troop leader for Girl Scouts. I am currently active duty Navy, going on 5 years and live with my husband (also Navy). My husband is currently in Florida awaiting orders back to VA and in the meantime, with my deployments and traveling out of the way now, I would like to start baby-sitting again. Perhaps it will even help prepare me to eventually have a child myself... but I'll just stick with sitting for now.
