I grew up in a large family. From the age of 10 I have been the primary caregiver for my younger siblings (ages 7, 2, and newborn twins). During these years I was responsible for diaper changing, bottle feeding/cooking, scheduling nap time, organizing play dates, homework help, cleanliness of home, and many other everyday activities. For the last 10 years I have watched them grow to become amazing young adults, and pre-teens.
During 2006, I became an after school nanny for a family three hours a day, four days a week. I was responsible for three boys (ages 8, 6, and 2). I was expected to meet the boys at their bus stop, help with homework, and prepare a snack with allergy awareness.
I am currently a volunteer coach for San Marin Youth Cheer for ages 10-12. I am responsible for child safety, coordinating game day cheers, encouraging the young ladies to work to the best of their potential. I am also available to them for moral, and emotional support.
In the last year I have been working closely with a family of 2 girls [ages 5 and 2]. I am planning on going to school very shortly, and as sad as it makes me, I am no longer able to work for them due to a conflict in schedules. While working for this family I was in charge of:
-Preparing a healthful, well balanced, breakfast
-Taking the girls on outings around the general area of town [library, playing at the park, walking downtown, etc.]
-Preparing a healthful, well balanced lunch
-Putting the 2-year-old down for her scheduled nap
-Keeping the 5-year-old engaged during our downtime [reading books, arts and crafts, singing and dancing to music]
-Basic household chores [dishes we used, maintaining a clean play area]
I am a big believer in using imagination, keeping kids interacting socially with myself, and other kids, I love sharing the joy of music with children [whether it be singing, dancing, or just listening as sweet background noise], reading, art projects, and ultimately just playing, exercising, and having fun. I am also a believer in making sure kids develop a sense of responsibility, but making sure this is done in a fun, and uplifting way.
