“ I come from a family of teachers and have loved working with children my entire life. Growing up as an only child, I didn't have the opportunities to interact with kids that other children with siblings may have, but as I grew older, I began babysitting for families in my neighborhood. I then pursued a degree in Elementary Education and have since held a teaching job for over 5 years.

I come from a family of teachers and have loved working with children my entire life. Growing up as an only child, I didn't have the opportunities to interact with kids that other children with siblings may have, but as I grew older, I began babysitting for families in my neighborhood. I then pursued a degree in Elementary Education and have since held a teaching job for over 5 years.

My role in my school district is extremely important to me because it has changed my way of thinking. I was raised in an affluent community and now teach in an urban school. My first year as a teacher was a huge eye-opener, as I interacted with students and parents who had such a different lifestyle than what I was used to. Educating these students--most of whom do not have the bare essentials or even someone to care for and support them--made me realize how much more there is to teaching than what I learned at Indiana University. Five years with these students has made me a teacher that cares for children with the love of a mother.
