I did child care from my home from 1982 til 1994, from the time I was having my children, til they went to school. I watched between one to three children at a time, depending on their age and the age of my children. They were between the age of 3 months to 10 years old.
In 1996, my grandmother had a stoke. She was bed ridden and needed care 24hrs a day. She lived with her daughter, my mother. I would go up and take care of my grandmother, so my mother could get out on her own for a little while. I would go every Sunday for 6 hours and one day during the week for a few hours.
In 2000, we found out my mother had pancreatic cancer. She only lived for three and half months after we found out. She was bedridden and needed care 24/7. We have a large family so we made a schedule, it worked. We had to double up because she needed so much care.
During that same time we found out my dad had lung cancer. He passed in 2001.
