I love working with children! My goal is to work with young children with emotional and behavioral issues in a therapeutic environment such as a therapeutic preschool. I am currently a senior by credit at Northwestern College, majoring in Psychology. I am a member of the Psychology National Honor Society, Psi Chi and I studied art at Northwestern College for a few years as well. I have had a lot of experience working with children in many different settings. I have done a lot of babysitting and summer nannying for neighbors, I have volunteered in the nursery at church as well as taught Wednesday school and vacation bible school to preschoolers. I have also worked in child care centers for about 2 years. My position as a teacher's aide involved many different duties and responsibilities including,"floating" different classrooms, which gave me experience working with all ages (infant to 12 years old). I assisted the teachers in teaching the curriculum and played with the children. I also changed, fed, painted (believe it or not :)), and entertained the babies when I assisted in the infant rooms. I interacted with the families as they came to pick up their children and cleaned and closed the center each evening. I have experience cooking, cleaning, transporting, tutoring, etc. and try to remain attentive and attuned to the children I work with. I interned and mentored for a while with a nonprofit that works with at-risk youth and "encourages healing through artistic expression". I was a team leader for our weekly mentor group where we planned and engaged in art projects with children from ages 11 - 15. I am currently interning at a center for children in what is considered a therapeutic preschool and have learned so much about working with children and just "meeting them where they are at". I value and can really appreciate a child's need for love, attention, play, space, comforting, and validation. Note: my hours will change for the summer, with more availability.
