My experience caring for children started when I was in middle school, babysitting in our neighborhood. One family also hired me to get their two school age children off the bus, help them with homework, have play time and on occasion make them dinner. I also babysat for another family with 3 girls for two full summers. I took them to different activities, camps, swimming, movies, etc. We also did school activity books all summer to keep up their academics. I was responsible for feeding them two meals a day.

I have babysat my cousin's children and also kept them overnight when they went away for the weekend. She has four children, including a set of twins.

I worked at Ring-Around-The Rosie Daycare for approximately 6 months before I moved to NC. I worked with the 18 month - 2-year-old children. I normally had 6-8 children in the room by myself. I took care of feeding the children, doing both outside and inside activities, crafts, reading and just generally having fun with the kids.

In August of 2007 I moved to NC and got a job at the YMCA After School Program. The children ranged from kindergarten to 6th grade. Responsible for feeding the kids a snack, making sure they had their homework done, playing outside or doing an inside craft. I also worked at the YMCA Summer Camp, where I was responsible for a full day of activities - both indoor and outdoor. We also took field trips, where I would be responsible for keeping track of the kids.

My next experience in child care would be at Little Lambs Preschool. The children ranged from one year to 4 years old. I loved working with this age, as they are ready to learn. The first year I had my own classroom, responsible for making my own lesson plans and coming up with and doing crafts. I had lots of interaction with parents as well. The second year, under new leadership, my role changed somewhat. More of a teacher's assistant that year, but spent lots of one on one time with the kids. This led to a job of watching a set of twins who attended the preschool. I watched them in their home for the summer 3 full days a week. Occasional weekend work as well. Right before I left NC to come back to OH, I actually got offered the job once again to nanny the twins. Sadly, I had to decline.

I've always enjoyed being around children, teaching them new things and being excited with them when they learn something new. It's wonderful to know that you've been a part of instilling values and life skills that will stay with them forever.
