I interviewed with Miesha on a Monday evening. She seemed like a very nice person during the interview. During the interview I explained to her that I had references from two Nanny jobs and also a reference from my previous job before I became a Nanny. I decided to use one from my previous job, which was unrelated to childcare, as a way to show diversity as a person. I had spoken to Miesha a lot during the interview about how I worked in an office environment before I became a Nanny. The other family that I provided a reference from was a family that I had worked with for three months. Miesha contacted me on Tuesday night and told me how highly both of my references spoke of me and how she would love to have me work for her. This was all over the phone after the initial interview. She called me at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night to offer me the position and asked me if I could start Wednesday, the very next morning, at 6:45 a.m. I did tell Miesha during the interview that I could start as soon as possible, however, most employers at least give 24 hours. She never told me a start date during the interview. During that phone call at 7:30 on Tuesday night was the first time I knew that the job started that next day. Honestly, I was a little shocked during the phone call and agreed to start the next day as I was excited to have been offered the job. After I got off of the phone I realized that I did have appointments to attend to the very next day and some later in the week. I called Miesha to talk to her about this, never saying that I would not come in, but simply saying that I did have previous engagements for this week and that I would like to start the following Monday. I did consider this a reasonable request as she called me, to hire me, less than 12 hours before she intended for me to start the job. She told me that she would call me back later that night. She never called me. I did call and text her the following day to see if she lined up childcare. She said she had and then texted me and said that she hired someone else, after she already hired me. Meanwhile, another fact I should add in, is that Miesha was only offering to pay $300 a week for 50+ hours. This comes out to be $6 an hour, which is less than minimum wage. One of Care. com standards are that employers pay their employees at least minimum wage. Miesha states that she was scrambling to find child care, what would she have done if I had declined her offer? I DO NOT recommend working for her.
