I was born into a family of three children. Growing up in the lower middle class there was never extra spending money, so at a very young age I had to look after my younger siblings while my parents went to work. I would cook them dinner, help them with their homework, do chores and help around the house. However I still managed to have a childhood and my parents did their best and made sure that my siblings and I had almost everything we needed.

To me, caring for children is almost like tending to a garden! As a Gardner, I have learned may lessons from gardening that I can apply to watching and nurturing children. I appreciate the impact gardening had on my life. Like all challenging work, gardening takes great responsibility, hard work, patience, persistence, perseverance, and dedication. Gardening led me to apply these qualities in my life and helped me to connect to and value nature.

I always knew that I was good with children. During my second year of high school I spent my whole summer at an inner city day camp. For 5 days a week, I volunteered my time to help with activities and caring for younger kids. We would go to museums, read books, do homework, create arts and crafts, etc. After that summer I really felt that as a career I want to do something that involves children, like a pediatrician.

I'm also very good with infants, my Aunt over a three year span has given birth to two beautiful and bright girls. Whenever she needs someone to watch them, I am always the person she goes to for assistance.
