Nothing brings me more joy than to work with children. I have had experience with children for about 10 years now, with my mom being a teacher for 20 years; it is almost impossible for me not to fall in love with kids. I have two beautiful nephews; both are 1-year-old and a niece who is little over 2 years old. When I go home to visit all my time and energy is spent dancing, eating, reading and playing with them and I wouldn't want it any other way. I believe that kids keep a joy in our lives that can't be found anywhere else, and it is contagious.
I went on a performing arts tour about 4 years ago and one of our stops was in Costa Rica. We pulled up to a gate and a run down building and just figured it was a low-income place for us to perform. It turned out to be something similar to an orphanage. Kids who wandered the streets were pulled into this building so they wouldn't be involved in any crime. All 25 of the children were held in an upstairs room. Everyone on the tour had their heart cracked that night. I learned though that these kids could care less where they were, they just wanted someone to show them love and affection. I don't know if I have ever seen kids so happy before, and these kids had nothing. That day changed the way I viewed children. I wanted to be more like that, in finding the little joys in life and living in the moment.
