I started babysitting when I was 13 years old for children of my parents' friends and for neighbor children. I always prided myself on being the babysitter who actually played with the kids I watched, never just plopping them in front of TV. At the age of 20, I got a job at a daycare as a teacher's aide where I worked full-time for 3 years. I spent the first 2 years in a room with children aged 18 months-36 months. I did everything from preparing lunches and snacks to running circle time. During that time, I got my Group Teacher certification. The final year, I spent in the newborn/infant room where I adhered to schedules parents set for their babies, washed bottles, etc. In 2005, I started working part-time as a nanny for a family with 3 children ages 4, 6, 8 and remained with them for 5 1/2 years at which point I had started a family with my husband. While with the family, I did light housework, helped with dinner, ran errands, picked up kids from the school bus and/or their school, drove kids around for play dates and sometimes even watched all 3 kids plus their friends. They were like family to me and I still occasionally babysit for them. While I was working in the daycare, I started doing in-home respite for a family with a special needs boy and continued doing that up until 2010. During the time that I worked as a nanny, my sister became a mother and I started babysitting for her on weekends and provided that for her up until I became a mother myself. Now, I still watch my nephew on occasion.

I am currently a stay-at-home mother to my own son at this point in time as well as a student majoring in Elementary Education and English, and am looking to babysit for parents who would like to get out for a few hours here and there in the evenings and on weekends. Parents have contacted me regarding after school babysitting jobs and while I will consider them, I feel it is important to state that I do not have childcare for my son so he goes everywhere I do during the day. Further, in September, I will be unavailable at all during the day due to my school schedule.
