I recently worked at a childcare center for over 2 years. I started out as a toddler teacher and transferred to a different location to become an infant support teacher. As a toddler teacher, myself and one other teacher were responsible for 10 children. This was a brand new center so we had to start everything from scratch including; creating a daily routine, setting up classrooms that would engage children's interest in learning while also making it feel more like a home environment, creating lesson plans, and creating art projects. Daily the children would have circle time with stories and songs. I also took this time to engage the children in small activities to work on counting and numbers, letters, our environment, and manners. If the weather was nice we would go outside and during the summer we had water days for the children. If the weather did not permit us to do so, then we would play in the large motor room. I had a child in the class that had several allergies to foods, so we worked with the parents and center's kitchen to provide a safe eating environment and foods for her. I taught the children Spanish. As an infant teacher my responsibilities were about the same except I was supporting the teachers. I helped with tummy time and helped the infants hit the appropriate milestones. I also worked with parents on preparing their child for their next milestones. Prior to working at a childcare center, I was a nanny for three children, a 5-year-old and 2-year-old boy/girl twins. I was responsible for: Creating and following a daily routine, Preparing healthy meals, Creating age appropriate leaning activities, Teaching; stranger danger, safety, manners, proper grammar, and self-help skills, Everyday repetition of cognitive skills, Educational play, Arts and crafts, Cooking activities, I took care of the children's laundry, and answered the phone when employer not available. I was involved in a tumble class with the twins. The twins were potty trained by 15 months. I taught them some Spanish. I love to be on the floor to play and teach children at their level. In January I decided to leave my job at the childcare center to be a stay at home mom. I have a 9-month-old son who has been developing 3 months in advance since birth. I wanted to be the one who got to see my son hit his big milestone, like him take his first steps. Now that he has hit those milestones, I am ready to get back to work. I would love if I could bring my son with me.
