My name is Emily and I am a nursing student at the University of San Francisco. I have a passion for teaching and caring for young children. In high school I worked at Long Beach Memorial Hospital as an aide to a child life therapist. I spent my time working with children from the ages of 2-18 years old and their families to try and make their time in the hospital as comfortable as possible. I spent many hours interacting with children from many different backgrounds, dealing with numerous types of ailments from broken bones to cystic fibrosis. I learned very quickly to look beyond the fact that they are ill and to always remember that every child needs a loving person in their life ready to teach and care for them.
As a college student, I traveled to the Dominican Republic and spent two weeks in a small village educating local children on topics from personal hygiene to the wonders of nature. Although my Spanish is not fluent, I was able to communicate with these impoverished children and was told by one of my superiors that I have the heart and mind to continue to volunteer and help people all around the world.
I am looking to take a break from the University of San Francisco.
