I am 49 years young. I was blessed with being a Nanny from birth to 4 1/2 years old before relocating to Florida. He is now 5. Before that, I spent 15 years as a school secretary, cheerleading coach, nurse, counselor, homework helper and after-school program provider. I have 14 years experience working one-on-one with "at-risk" children and have had success getting them through school, from PreK, Special Needs to 9th grade. I have had extensive first-aid training and am not squeamish. My daughter is now 29-years-old but isn't having children (do cats count)? I am suffering from empty nest!
I am a non-denominational Christian, considered to be kind, patient, forgiving, creative, organized, laid back, imaginative, patient and well rounded.
Things I like to do with children (age appropriate activities): Outdoor activities such as the park, the zoo, playing games, teach to ride tricycle/bicycle, teach basic sports skills, adventure walks and more. Indoor activities include reading, arts and crafts, basic cooking and safety, manners, colors, shapes, letters and numbers, manners, playtime, cuddle time, eating good food, teach life skills such as crawling, walking, potty-training, brushing teeth, getting dressed and more.
Ultimately, I would love a position with a family with a newborn or young child, where I can develop a loving relationship with the family over a long-term period. I prefer part-time positions.
I have a current driver's license and a reliable vehicle. I also have a current passport and am willing to travel. I live in the Pinellas Point area of St. Petersburg with my dogs: Rusty, Bentley and Chewy and cats, Sweetpea and Sissy.
I have experience with animals of all types, except snakes. I have had: groundhogs, skunks, deer, horses, cows, pigs, sheep, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds and raccoons!
I believe in positive reinforcement and redirection to an appropriate behavior. I do not physically punish any child. I prefer teaching the child positive behaviors and giving him/her lots of attention and alternatives to temper tantrums, fighting, bullying and the rest of life's many challenges.
I am Red Cross certified, including baby and child first aid and CPR/AED. As an added (fun) plus, I am also a photographer/writer and enjoy documenting a child's life with photos and stories that they participate in.
Nightmares, colic, teething, your routines and sleeping schedules are not a problem at all.
