I am an education major and plan to become a teacher after graduating with my Master's Degree from JMU. I am currently employed at Kinetic Kid's Gym in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where I am a gymnastics instructor to children from ages 3-12 and also teach "Kinetic Discovery" classes to 1-5-year-old children. These "Kinetic Discovery" classes are instructional, yet fun, classes focusing on a certain subject such as learning colors, shapes, numbers, etc., by using the equipment in the gym and doing different activities to develop the children's cognitive, physical, and social abilities, as well as helping them to fully comprehend the new ideas and concepts which I introduce to them throughout the class time. I've learned so much about children, their minds, and their learning abilities through these classes, and I would love to continue with what I've learned thus far with other children. I believe that children learn best by doing, as well as having fun with what they are learning, and I would love to be able to incorporate some sort of daily/weekly lesson into the fun I would be having with the children!
I also was a gymnast for over 10 years as well as a competitive cheerleader for six. I taught private lessons in Roanoke, Virginia, through a private gym owner, for a short period of time, and have continued those lessons here in Harrisonburg, with my classes at Kinetic Kids. I'm very experienced and well-trained with gymnastics, as well as cheerleading and tumbling, and it is my passion to pass my knowledge of these things on to those younger than me in order to have them experience the same love for it that I have.
Also, I volunteered as a tutor to elementary-aged children previously this school year and helped them with homework and other school work.
Besides these things, I have had much experience with babysitting and being a nanny within my hometown as well as within my family, growing up with over 50 younger cousins and a younger sister. I also oversaw the nursery/toddler department for many years at my home church.
