I have had two official nanny jobs and both were amazing/different experiences. I first became an occasional babysitter for two boys who were then 10 years old and 8 years old. The 8-year-old has Autism which was my first time caring for a child with the disorder. At first this was a challenge, but soon we became great buddies. Once summer rolled around they were in need of a full-time nanny and offered me the position from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Towards the fall, they offered me an after school position. I did this for my senior year of high school to my sophomore year of college, so three years. Now the boys are 12 and soon to be 14 and I still babysit for them on occasion. My second nanny job, I cared for a 4-year-old girl and an 12-year-old boy. For this position, I stayed overnight multiple times a week. I prepared meals, helped with homework, dropped and picked up from school and took them wherever they needed me to go, and did many arts and crafts projects! This position was for six months and I loved every minute of it! I have families that I occasionally babysit for, the main family has four rowdy boys each about two years apart. I have been babysitting them since the oldest was two and he is now nine. They are a great time and our time is filled with sports, arts and crafts, and reading stories. I have also done a lot of work with preteen and high school children while working with youth ministries. I worked as a camp counselor. I did a lot of work with the arts and crafts, gave talks, and was a care team leader (which basically is to make sure everyone is feeling comfortable and having an awesome time). I helped with this program for three years and this is actually what helped me decide that I wanted to work with children as a career. Working with children is an amazing experience! I have just started in the Early Childhood Education program at Southwestern Michigan College and I'm so excited to get my degree doing something I am so passionate about!
