My child care experience started when I was 11 years old. At that time, I began volunteering in my church nursery and have continued ever since. From 2004-2008, I was an assistant Sunday School Teacher for the 3 and 4-year-old class at my church, which I really enjoyed. From 2009-2012, I moved to Louisiana and helped out in children's ministry at my church there. I started off volunteering in the nursery, with toddlers and the 3/4-year-old class. After being with them for a year, I was made the Assistant Children's Director which involved helping to oversee all classes from birth to 5th grade. This involved facilitating the Sunday morning meeting with the volunteers, greeting the kids, making sure all volunteers were in their correct classes and that check-in was running smoothly.
I lived with a family for a few weeks to help care for their newborn, 2 and 4 year-old. I was responsible for child care, housekeeping, grocery shopping, etc.
I helped out a single dad of three girls ages 5, 8 and 12. From 2004-2008, I helped a family with 5 kids ages 11, (twins) 9, 4 and 11 months. I took care of the children, cooked meals, changed diapers, read stories, did the bedtime routine, went to the park, did laundry, etc. I would also house-sit and care for their pets each time they would go away.
My last family had kids ages 9, 12, and 14. I was with them for about 4 years. I loved taking them swimming, for walks/bike rides, for ice cream, playing games with them, reading to them, helping with homework, taking them to sports practices, etc. I would also house/pet sit when they would go away and did a few overnights with the kids as well. Household tasks I helped with were laundry, dishes and general cleaning.
I'm passionate about helping people no matter how old they are, but I absolutely love children! I love when they ask questions and enjoy watching them learn, grow up and find out who they are. I would consider a full-time position with the right family! I have several references if you would like them!
