As a brand new mother of a beautiful, baby girl, I understand the hardship of finding a trustworthy, compassionate caregiver for your child. I feel lucky to have both daycare and in-home child care experience to make the best decisions for my child. In my young adult years I watched many of my neighbors' children (ages 6-10) from short (1-3 hours) to long (6-8 hours) periods of time. I was always trusted to return. I enjoyed this, as they were often not far off from my age. We would play games, watch movies and bike ride or other outdoor activities they enjoyed. From this time, I knew that I wanted to work with children as an adult. From March 2009 to September 2010, with my Bachelor's degree in Psychology, I worked for Small Strides Daycare Center, where I began as a part-time breaker. I would work in each room (ages from 6 weeks to 6 years), and was able to learn about each child at the center. I was also able to assist with implementing the curriculum in each room, which involved crafts, outdoor time, and basic life and education skills. I was offered and accepted a full-time position as the Lead Teacher in one of the infant rooms (ages 6 weeks to 18 months), where I cared for each infant physically and emotionally, and developed and implemented weekly curriculum. The curriculum consisted of introductions to many of skills infants and young toddlers can accomplish or begin to accomplish, such as motor and language skills. This position showed me that my true passion is teaching and caring for children, and I am beginning to pursue my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. From February 2011 through June 2011, I worked as an in-home child caregiver for a family with four children ranging in age from 6 months to 11 years old. I was responsible for mealtime, morning school preparation, infant care and implementing a weekly preschool curriculum. I quickly became part of this family, and am sorry to see our professional relationship end, even though our friendship has and will continue.
