Claudia was our beloved nanny from October 5, 2009 through September 2010. She was responsible for caring for our only child, who was 15 months, but was almost 4 months old when she began. She was with him 38 hours per week, in our home, as a live-out nanny. Her responsibilities included basic care such as feeding, bathing and changing diapers. She was also charged with stimulating his mind with books, games and songs and taking him for exercise and socializing at the playground or inside of a playgroup.
As a first-time parent, I had many apprehensions trusting my baby's development and daily care to someone outside of our family, while I returned to my career. From the moment we met Claudia, my concerns were quieted. She has a very natural, easygoing disposition, that speaks to her confidence as a child care professional. When I left each morning, I felt at ease knowing that my son was receiving outstanding care from Claudia. She keeps a cool head and I've yet to see her flustered or anything but sunny with anyone she comes across. To some that may sound unrealistic, but I believe it is because she is doing what makes her happiest, caring for children.
We have asked Claudia to adopt some of our unconventional techniques in raising our son and she hasn't faltered in supporting our wishes as his parents. She has employed alternative methods like cloth-diapering, elimination communication and baby sign language. Her flexibility and dedication to the parenting philosophy we subscribe to gave our son consistency and routine, which enables him to better predict and understand the environment around him.
Claudia is a very affectionate and warm nanny, showering our baby with encouraging words, kisses and compliments. I have no doubt that our son knows he is loved by Claudia and he is quick to demonstrate his loving feelings to her. While we want him to progress in his intellectual and physical development, one of the most critical foundations in his growth is his sense of security and self-confidence. With Claudia, our son is free to explore and try new things, because he knows she is there when he needs her. I credit her with much of his supremely social nature, he hasn't met a human he doesn't want to greet! It also makes her very easy to communicate with, as a parent and an employer. I have had many open and honest discussions with Claudia and she has always been very direct in her communications to us.
I made the decision to leave my job and be a stay at home mother. It was with much sadness that we ended our working relationship with Claudia, as she had become a member of our small family. Daily we share information about our lives with one another and we all share in our love for our son. While we will no longer require Claudia's service, she will always be an important part of our lives and we consider her a close family friend. I wholeheartedly recommend Claudia to any family looking for a dedicated, loving and qualified nanny. She is a special person who comes to work each day with happiness and a strong work ethic. Knowing Claudia was there with our child was the next best thing to being there myself and we're all the better for her being a part of our household for the last year.
