My childhood care history ultimately began at 13 when my youngest sister was born. I loved caring for her and watching her learn and grow and I did so all through high school. In college, my major was environmental studies with a focus in teaching children and I minored in world religions. For this major, I had to write a senior thesis about teaching which I based upon my experience as an intern at a farm camp, working as a teacher in an outdoor classroom. As an intern I worked with children ages 3 to 12 in both small and large groups.
After college, my first job was in a small early childhood education center where I was an assistant teacher to about 13 children at full capacity. I was also deemed "caregiver " of 4 of these children who were always in my 1:4 ratio. Outside of the daycare setting, I babysat for most of the families in their homes, which often included picking up siblings from daycare and school, getting them settled at home, doing homework, making dinner, and getting them to bed.
