I am about to complete my senior year as an elementary education major in college. Though I do not have any paid experience, I have had experience teaching elementary school children through my major. Over the past three years I have spent many hours observing in elementary school classrooms, while often assisting the teacher. Many times, this assistance involved helping children in the classroom that were falling behind the rest of the class or struggling. I also worked as a Camp Counselor for three summers through a church, so I do have paid experience supervising and working with elementary school children. Though I was not responsible for teaching these children academic skills, I did teach and instruct them in activities such as games, skits, bible stories and crafts. I have also served as a volunteer teacher at vacation bible school and Sunday school assistant at a church. My duties were similar to my camp counselor job, except for the fact that it was only one week, instead of nine weeks and it was a volunteer position. I enjoy spending time with and having fun with children, while helping them learn new things and keeping them safe. Last summer I also was a nanny for two families. One family with four children between the ages of 1 and 7. Over my winter break, I also took care of the 3-year-old and 7-year-old boys while the rest of the family was out of town for a week. The other family I was a nanny for had a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy with low-functioning autism.
