Hi! I'm Chelsea!
I am a senior in the Early Childhood Education program at The University of Arizona. I am student teaching in a kindergarten classroom this semester with the same teacher I completed my practicum with. I have been leading whole-group lessons in phonics, reading, writing, and math for children who are English Language Learners. I also did many observations in preschools throughout Tucson, which included supervising the children in the reading, dramatic play, sensory, and writing centers. I also worked as a substitute at a preschool in north Tucson this past year. I have been working with children for the past 10 years and babysitting my three younger sisters since the age of 10, so I am fully competent in cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, changing diapers, and playing with children. I have also babysat the children of family friends and my parents' colleagues.
I am originally from New Mexico. In high school, I participated in a class where I volunteered in a preschool. I worked in a 6-12 month infant room for one hour a day. I assisted with bottle feedings, played with the babies, and put the children to sleep. During my junior and senior years, I worked in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms. I was in charge of tutoring the students in reading and math in small group settings and through individual pull-outs. The children and I worked with flash cards, leveled readers, math manipulatives, and art activities.
During the past four summers, I worked at a summer camp at a gymnastics gym I used to attend as a child. I supervised gymnastics activities, arts and crafts, swimming, lunch, and field trips. I was responsible for following lesson plans that incorporated theme-related educational activities and for maintaining an enjoyable and safe learning environment for 40 school-aged children.
I will be completing my final semester of student teaching in a preschool classroom with 4-year-olds this spring. I am excited to see how children develop and grow at this age and I hope to use a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to adequately teach them.
I am interested in being an after school nanny or babysitter for your family. I absolutely love to read stories, do arts and crafts, and play outside with children. My mother is a teacher, so I have always had a natural desire to work with children. I very much look forward to working with your family!
