My experience as a caregiver started when I was 11 and a half years old and have since been a part-time nanny for a family for over a year. I love being around children and making them happy and comfortable while their parents are away. I have worked with children of all ages, including infants of just 5 months old all the way up to 11 year olds. Most of my experience is with toddlers aged 2-4 and children aged 6-9 but I have experience with all ages and love them all. As a caregiver, it is my strong opinion that the children need to be played with while I am watching them. It is unfair to the children, as well as the parents who put their trust in a caregiver, if said caregiver were to simply sit on the couch and watch movie after movie with the children all day, everyday. Instead of doing such, I ask the children what they would like to do that day and it does not matter if they reply with paint, Lego's, go for a walk, or play lots of board games. As long as the children are happy, so am I. I also firmly believe in leaving the families' home cleaner than when I arrived. The children and I will clean up whatever it may be that we play with when finished and will clean up after eating meals and so forth. Basically, I feel that it is my duty as a caregiver to do what the mother would do for her children in her absence and do it by being as fun as possible so the children enjoy my presence.
