Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a 22-year-old nanny with 10 years of various experience. I most recently worked with a family that has four children, all elementary aged. I am seeking a degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University. I'm comfortable working with multiples, performing light housework, doing the children's laundry, homework help, pets, and mealtime. I also have recent newborn experience, and am able to handle all that it entails, nap times, diaper changing, burping, tummy time, etc. I've babysat overnight for families, and I would have no problem staying overnight if you needed me to. I speak Spanish, though I'm not a native speaker, and I love to incorporate music into my time with the kids. I'm First-Aid certified, and willing to become CPR certified as well. I have a valid driver's license, but no car, and I can legally work in the United States. I am comfortable working with children of all ages. I've taken care of someone from as young as 5 weeks to as old as 13 years of age. There are three things that I stand by when babysitting. First, education and learning are a priority! Homework always comes first for the school-age children I work with, and I try to keep many of the games and activities educational for the younger kids as well. Second, I normally try to keep "screen time" to a minimum. I'd rather let the children read or play. Third, while I like to have fun, I'm not afraid to give a time-out. If a child hits, bites, has a tantrum, etc., I will give that child an age-appropriate punishment. An example of this would be telling a kindergartener sit in the dining room where there are no toys for five minutes after a tantrum. I am really involved in the children's ministries, and I'm currently a Sunday School teacher at my church in Lakeview. As such, I'm used to managing the needs of several children at once. I spent the summer of 2011 volunteering in South America, where much of my work revolved around the kids of the community. For three years while I attended college in Ohio, I worked as a literacy tutor with the America Reads program. There, I worked with at-risk, elementary age readers one-on-one in order to improve their reading abilities and build their self-confidence. I enjoy nannying because working with kids is what I know best!
