As a graduating senior in high school I've had my fair share of experience with children. From my freshman to junior year I periodically volunteered in my church's nursery (for children 0-3) where I had the pleasure to learn of the "dirty side" of baby care. This didn't scare me off though! This year I've just recently complete a season (August through March) of working at an Elementary Schools Good News Club. I acted as a "grade shepherd" over 14 2nd graders. During club we'd provide snack, act as a amateur spiritual councilor, and maintain some semblance of control over our group. During February I was accepted as a chaperone for a Middle School United Nations Convention which basically put me in the position of a role model and mentor for a smaller group of four 7th graders. Most recently, I have volunteered as a kid's camp facilitator. During a weekend-long young Life Family Camp, I compiled values-based bible lessons and activities to occupy a group of 35 5 to 6-year-olds for a total of four hours over three days. Each of these experiences has taught me how much I truly appreciate the time I can spend with children and the relationships that result from that.
