Hi there! I'm an actor/writer/storyteller who's been doing freelance child care to help support my career in the arts. I babysat quite a bit when I was a teenager and into my sophomore year of college, and have since worked with kids of all ages in other capacities: I've taught kids' theatre classes, been a summer camp counselor, sat for families both on call and on a consistent schedule and have been a church childcare provider. I adore kids, and find them energizing, inspiring, and a fantastic source of creativity; my enthusiasm for interacting with them is always genuine! I love reading to kids, love doing art projects, and I love inventing games for us to play that have "hidden educational value". For example, when a 2-year-old that I sit for fell in love with his dad's measuring tape, we went around the house playing "let's measure everything" and talked about what is "big", what is "little", what is "long", "short", "tall", etc. Also, I have no qualms about being absolutely goofy.
I'm a Phi Beta Kappa/Summa Cum Laude college grad, and, as I mentioned, I have worked in educational settings previously; so I'm happy to help your kids with their homework. Thanks to two years working as an arts instructor for adults with disabilities, I'm also comfortable with special needs, and different learning and communication styles. My care giving rates are $12-$15 an hour, depending on number of kids, distance, and responsibilities.
I filled out on this form that I don't mind pets. While that's true, I am allergic to furry animals, so I'd prefer pet free households, but could deal with them if I didn't have much physical contact with the pet, and if I took the appropriate antihistamine ahead of time. Also, I don't have a car. I can get around by bus, or get a ride from you if you're OK with that. Please give me a call to chat.
