I graduated with a social work degree in May 2008, and I have been baby-sitting since junior high and have also volunteered in multiple settings, including Sunday schools, AWANA clubs, etc. My goal is for kids to have fun and be safe with me; I even prefer that older children think of me more like a friend than a "baby sitter." Kids should feel comfortable around me because they know they are safe and that I will defend them while their mom and dad are gone. If you go out on a date, be prepared to have your kitchen cleaned and everything the children and I used that night put away! Bedtime routines are not fudged on--I may be their "friend," but the rules still apply. I use whatever discipline system parents already have in place, because I know that consistency counts, and I am not afraid of children disliking me because I enforce those boundaries. My knowledge of how to handle both "normal" and "difficult" children has come from both experience and the classroom, so I know what to do in a variety of situations. I am also certified in CPR and First Aid. In general, I just love kids and seeing them grow!
