I'm a recent college graduate who majored in Musical Theatre and I adore children. I've mainly cared for two boys who started at ages 2 and 5 and are now 9 and 12. I've also cared for many other children ranging from 6 months to 13 years of age. I love to play with kids and engage their imaginations with games and educational-yet-fun activities. Children have such open minds and I love their sense of adventure and merriment.
I love to cook--it's one of my biggest passions. It's a great creative outlet for me, and I've found it's a fun activity for children to participate in as well. I've made everything from scrambled eggs and cookies to creme brulee and raspberry-balsamic reductions. I love to make healthy dishes that are still filled with flavor so the kids will enjoy the food and won't even think about it being healthy or not. I have a BFA in Musical Theatre, so acting, singing, and dancing are more than just my hobbies, they are my passions. I also play the violin and piano (I could easily give lessons on both for any budding musicians out there!) and I've studied the flute and am currently learning to play the guitar. I love music of all kinds--classical, jazz, rock, broadway etc.--and believe that exposure to the arts is essential while kids are growing up. And where better than New York City to explore the arts? I love taking kids to museums, concerts, theatre, or exploring the library and finding a great book to read together. I believe reading is very important for children, and strive to make it a point to read every day in my own life as well as with the children I care for. I'm great with elementary/early middle school homework, and always help the kids with their schoolwork. Being home schooled until college, I am extremely self-motivated--and strive to help the kids to be the same--and I work very well one-on-one with them.
