Brett P. - Kansas City Babysitter

Profile of Brett P.

Part-Time, 10 + Years of Experience

I am available all day Wednesday, 11/25, (day before Thanksgiving) and possible extended availability 11/26-11/29.

I can provide care for your children, including those with special needs. I have professional experience with children of all ages who have various developmental disabilities, including behaviorally challenged kids. I understand that some kids with behavior challenges require a care provider who can gently, calmly and safely deal with physical and verbal aggression. I realize that sometimes these kids exhibit erratic and unpredictable behaviors that can endanger themselves and those around them. I know to be especially vigilant for these behaviors and their triggers.

My training and experience includes a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Rockhurst University; four years of teaching/paraprofessional experience working with students in kindergarten through 12th grade; three years of experience working with K-12 students who are experiencing various types of cognitive and developmental disabilities; two years of experience teaching K-3 students with emotional disturbances and behavioral disorders; experience (one summer semester/ESY) as an early childhood special education (ECSE) (ages 3 - 5) paraprofessional; special education knowledge and experience, including familiarity with laws, processes, various disabilities, and different teaching techniques. I also have 20 years of experience caring for and interacting with my 11 nieces and nephews, as well as the children of friends and fellow church members. I have an excellent driving record, including 11 years as a commercial driver with two five-year safe driving awards. I have successfully completing training to become an adoptive parent. I am currently employed as a special education paraprofessional in a major, local, public school district.

You as a parent will receive the services of a highly trained, dependable, responsible, experienced, level headed, empathetic, and fun-loving individual who truly enjoys caring for and interacting with kids of all ages and ability levels.

God has blessed me with the patience, understanding, compassion and skills necessary to help interact with, and care for, children of many different ability levels. I feel the need to put my talents to work to help children grow academically, emotionally and socially. I want to help foster healthy, happy families by giving parents (and their children) a break from each other. Parents occasionally need some adult one-on-one or alone time so they can re-energize themselves and/or their marriage to help ensure preservation of the family unit. All of society benefits when family units are solid and healthy.

Although I only offer part-time availability, I may be available for extended periods at times when school is not in session: during breaks, holidays and summers. In some cases, I might even be available to accompany your family on a trip in order to help with supervision. Finally, I can transport or escort your children to appointments, engagements, activities, etc. , provided you can give me an appropriate car seat, (if I don't have one with me already), and agree to pay an additional fee for fuel expenses.
