As a mother myself, I greatly understand the need for safe, reliable child care. There is no greater relief than knowing that a person's children are in a safe, loving, productive environment all day while the parents are working to provide for their family. I love being around and working with and helping children, which is why my long-term goal is to receive a registered nurse degree, with a concentration in pediatrics. For seven years I was responsible for caring for my two younger brothers. With an emotionally absent mother and physically absent father, I took on the role as parent. Making sure there was dinner on the table every night, getting them up and ready for school and on the bus every morning, and making sure homework was done were just a few of my responsibilities. Cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping were also on my list. I am the oldest child in my extended family, so I have been taking care of siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews my whole life. And now that I am a mother, I can add that to my list of experience.
