Ashley S. - Bellingham Nanny
Profile of Ashley S.
Full-Time, 2 Years of Experience
I love working with children. Like most young girls, I started baby-sitting when I was 12 to make a little extra money. In addition to baby-sitting, I taught Sunday school for three years, spent four summers working at Camp Firwood, and coached second graders for Math Olympiad. When my fourth and final summer at Firwood came to an end, I decided to pursue a nanny position. It was then that I applied for a position with a family. I spent a year as a nanny for this family and their two adorable children: now age 3 and 21 months. I would still be with them but, with the news of their third child on the way, the mom decided to quit working and stay home with the children. I still take care of them on occasion. At Camp Firwood I worked with children ages eight to 18, depending on the week. On a weekly basis, I was responsible for a group of nine girls. I taught two activity classes every day, ranging from sailing to archery, in addition to leading the girls in daily Bible study and providing 24-hour supervision. Some of my best memories to date are of Camp Firwood; many of my campers and I still stay in touch and have formed lasting relationships. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to continue to be a part of these young girls' lives. Caring for children presents its challenges, but its rewards are far greater. The spontaneity, challenges, and opportunity to make a difference in a child's life are what fuel my passion. Every day is different from the last. I love and appreciate all the little things: genuine laughter, potty training, artwork, the excitement in a child's eyes as they experience things for the first time and just watching them change as they grow. I absolutely love to laugh and do so often! I have a hard time sitting still and like to keep pretty busy! In my spare time I enjoy camping, snow skiing, sailing, tennis, (although I'm literally the worst tennis player in the world!), traveling, playing board games, bowling, crafting, vanilla lattes, and spending time with friends and family. I love the seasons we have in Northwest Washington, whether I'm building sand castles in the sun or stomping through puddles in my leopard print rain boots, you can almost always find me outside! The kid in me loves flying kites on a crisp, blustery day. Of course some days are just good days to stay in, drink hot cocoa, and a craft. No matter what I'm doing, I try to make the most of it and have a good time.- Female
