Job searching is hard. Sometimes you find a great job immediately and sometimes it can take a while. Plus, you're busy and it can be difficult to devote all of your time to a job search.

At Care.com, we want to help you find a match as quickly as possible. Here are eight secrets we've picked up along the way about how to use Care.com to find a job fast.

  1. Apply to Less Jobs
    Yes, you read that right! Believe it or not, you may be applying to too many jobs. It's not always about how many jobs you apply to, but if they're the right jobs for you. Think quality, not quantity.

    Pay attention to Care.com's job alert emails, but take the time to run specific searches to narrow your focus and sort opportunities by categories, such as distance, experience, relevance, name, membership length, city and age. Apply only to the jobs that are a good match for your experience.

    Then use the time you save to craft individualized messages about why you're a good fit for each job, and follow up if you don't hear anything back.

  2. Write Personalized Responses
    It's definitely fast to cut and paste a quick response to a posting, telling the family or company that you're interested and they should check out your great profile. But these generic applications are often a waste of time and probably won't get you the job.

    Take a few minutes to say why you want this position and why you would be the perfect person to care of their child, pet, house, older family member, etc. You don't have to tell a family or company your life story -- and you shouldn't. Write a few brief sentences about why you are excited about this specific job, how it relates to your previous experience and why you're a good fit. Then suggest they check out your profile.

  3. Update Your Profile
    Members with new or updated profiles usually appear at the top of the page when families or companies are searching for candidates. Commit to updating your profile every few days. You'll jump in the results and get viewed quicker by families and companies.

    Add new information to your profile that sets you apart from other candidates. Have you picked up any new hobbies, read any new interesting child care books, learned a great cleaning secret or signed up to run a 5K? Be creative. This additional information will give a family or company a more complete picture of who you really are and why you might be perfect for them.

  4. Add the Right Photos
    The photo is one of the most important elements in a profile. If you don't have one already, ask someone to take a conservative headshot of you. The results will be worth it.

    Then add up to five additional photos that continue to tell your story and your personality. Families are looking for someone who will fit in with their family's values, personalities and interests, and a variety of interesting images will help.

  5. Change Those Photos
    Updating your profile pictures regularly can help you get a job faster. When people see a new face, they assume it's a new profile and may click on your name again. More clicks mean an increased chance of finding a job.

  6. Increase Your Availability
    Another important area of your profile is the "Availability" section. Take a hard look at it. Is it up-to-date? If you really need a job ASAP, can you add more days or hours that you're free to work? The more open you are, the more jobs you'll fit and the faster you may get hired.

    Did you sign up to be a backup care provider? In your profile under the availability section, select yes when you're asked: "Are you available for last minute care?" Then when families unexpectedly need last-minute care you will get a notification. Who knows? A one-time job may lead to a full-time position.

  7. Get Checked
    Families want someone with a complete background check because it saves them the time and trouble of getting one for a potential employee. If you don't have a background check listed on your profile, you may not even make the first round of choices.

  8. Promote Your Profile
    Now get the word out to your network that you're ready and willing to work. Share your profile on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. Email it to friends, family, former co-workers, your first-grade teacher, etc. Anyone you can think of! You never know who is looking for care.

The big secret to getting hired fast is being detail-oriented. You need a job now, but don't rush into applying for everything immediately. Figure out what type of job you're best suited for, make sure your profile is detailed and up-to-date and take the time to craft individualized applications to the jobs that fit your expertise. Hi everyone,Ive been a member since August 2013. (free membership) I've had 3 interviews total but get a pretty good amount of replies/feedback. I've gotten 2/3 jobs. 1 was date nights & one was part time. But she had to let me go because shes gotten very sick. I've been lucky so far on Care.com, It gives me something to look forward to when I get a message. The only cons are that there isnt always jobs in my area, or new ones, and most of the time when I try to update my picture it doesn't go through. Best of luck everyone!

Great question! Whenever you add any new information to your profile it always goes through an approval process. What happens sometimes is you will create a service profile, and start applying to jobs before the profile is fully approved. If you are applying to jobs before your profile is fully approved, they will be in the "Pending Approval" stage. Profiles typically take 24-48 hours to be approved before your applications will be fully submitted.

I have a question concerning the application process - when I look at the applications that I have put in for jobs it states that the status or date applied is "Pending Approval", can someone tell me what that means and how I can remedy this? I have not heard back on any of the jobs that I have applied to and now wonder whether I was even considered because they may not have recieved it. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone. I have been a member of Care. Com for one year now. I have been on a few interviews but only managed to get one job. I am thankful for it but it is only occasional and I can't pay my bills with it. I have been applying to only the jobs that I think would suit me and vice versa but it has been very difficult to get people to respond back to me. I take the time to read their posts and take the time to write back geared to the specific job I am applying for and yet they can't take the time to respond back to me. I am sorry but I feel it is rude on their part to not respond back even if its to tell me they are not interested in hiring me. I have a profile but refuse to put my picture on line and do not go on face book or twitter either. I think I shouldn't be penalized for not wanting to put my picture on line. If they like what read in my application then they can set up an interview to meet me the old school way. I can't believe I am not getting a job or responses back simply because I do not have a picture to go with my profile or I don't have connections since I am not on face book or twitter. I am sorry if it sounds like I have an attitude but I have been trying and trying to get a job and I am really getting tired of being ignored! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Care.com is a great site for people in need of services and those who can and want to be hired to provide support. My only concerns is the time it takes care.com to update the info i submit ie verify my phone number ! I submitted an updated reference list and no references appear ! Well, that being stated, I still get contacted via care.com for my services. Imagine that ! People are desperate to get good help. I am greatful for this website just wish they could be more efficient.

I would like to see Care.com improve the job listings so that 1) after a posting has been viewed the title changes color (think craigslist) so I know I have already looked at that posting, and 2) improve the search parameters. When I check "before school positions" I still get postings for full-time and after-school. These two issues cause me to spend a lot of time looking through postings that are not what I am looking for.

By the way, I love the new summary bar.

Question: do some posters not read what they have written before hitting the post button? Many times the posts do not make sense - words are missing, or different posts look nearly identical. If there is a "checklist" of sentences for posters to choose from, there needs to be better instruction on how to construct their post so it makes sense.

I think CARE.com should assist each Job hunter applicants to their application and re-proof their emails and comments. Also help them to submit it to prospective employers. Once the applicant is accepted for employment within 2 weeks--then the applicant can decide for payment procedure and fees--if they are suitable with the present employer.

I feel the same way as alot of you do. I paid for 1month of a premium membership and no one ever responsed to any of my messages. I canceled my premium membership and still no one has responded to my messages. Very frustrating as I am a very experienced Nanny.

A featured membership gives you added visibility on the site but you are still required to actively send out applications every day. Background Checks are an optional feature on our site and it's ultimately your decision on whether or not you would like to purchase one for yourself. You do want to consider that many of the families that join our site are joining for the various background check options we offer. In addition, having a background check on file does improve the strength of your profile with us. So while it's not required, it's certainly something we strongly encourage!

I think care.com should consider allowing All "Seeking Service" members the opportunity to respond to applicants regardless of their membership status. I am constantly asked to upgrade in order to respond to an applicant. I feel it is unfair and inconsiderate of me that I do not respond. It is not that I do not want to, I am unable to because I am not a premium member. Changing this feature or lack there of, would cut down on the discouraged providers, and alleviate the concerns of individuals wanting to know if there application has been seen or reviewed. It is in poor taste that I am able to read and view the applicants message and profile, however I am unable to say Thank you the position has been filled or Thank you for your consideration. Please consider at least a generic automated response.

I also have had more babysitting jobs than I can count, and find a lot of short term summer jobs because my full time job only goes through the school year. I've been with Care.com for about 2 years now and have secured several part-time nanny positions as well as a few babysitting jobs (evenings/weekends). Those who I have interviewed with tell me that they often get 40-50 or more responses within first day or 2 that they post their ads! I think it's a miracle that I've been so lucky, seriously. They also say that some have really poor grammar, so it might be good for some to have someone proof read for them. But I try to answer ads personally and clearly, and double check my grammar and spelling before I send my response. I also carefully select the ones that match my desired distance and wage and have a high and low wage that I can negotiate within. The 1 time I paid for the featured membership I had several families contact me. It bumped me to the top of the list. Again, may have been lucky. Hi Ana, I m sorry to hear that you haven t been hearing back from families. You can always check to see if your applications are being sent by going to your My Applications page and checking to see the Date Applied. If the date is listed there, that means the application was delivered to the potential employer. If the application says Pending Approval that means there is something in the account that has not been fully approved yet. Your entire description should be available for others to see as long as it falls within our character limit. When editing the account, it may take a couple of hours for the site to refresh in order for these changes to be made. If you re still having issues with this, please feel free to reach out to us regarding this matter so we can take a look.

Hi Regina, the mileage on the jobs is calculated from the center of the town that it s located in. Right now, we do not have the functionality to calculate exactly how far a job is from your mailing address, so in that sense the mileage may not always be exactly correct. We are constantly evolving and looking for ways to improve the service, so we appreciate your feedback on this matter.

Hi Carfel! In order to run the background check through our service it is necessary to provide your SSN for it to be properly run. The background check is not necessary in order to have an active profile on the site, but the SSN is never made visible to anyone on the site. When the background check is returned, it will only say that you Social Security number has been verified, but will not give any additional information. Hi Suzanne, I am sorry to hear that you haven t been receiving responses from families. With the premium membership, you are able to see which families have viewed your profile and message them directly. On your My Applications page, you are able to see the date that the application was delivered and send a follow up message if you would like, but there is no way as of right now to see if you are being considered for a position. Adding a photo, running a background check, or adding references, connections and reviews will strengthen your profile, and make it more attractive to the families that are looking to hire. Always make sure that your profile is up to date and proof read, as well as the applications that you send out. Keep checking the site and actively applying for jobs. The more jobs you apply to, the more likely you are to hear back! Keep in mind that new jobs are being posted on the site every day, so there are always new opportunities to find the perfect fit. Hi Nine, I apologize for the confusion. It does not cost money in order to have a profile and apply for positions on the site. We offer a premium membership that gives care providers additional features that they can utilize, but it is not required to have. As a free member you can still have an active profile, apply to any of the jobs you see on the site and are available in search results for families to see. Having a photo is an optional feature on the site. You do not need a photo on your account to be active and apply for positions. I hope this helps to clarify.

Hi Boonyanee, if your profiles for Child care and Housekeeping are not live, it may just mean that they are not fully approved yet. Go to your Profile and Settings and check to see if they are still Pending Approval. If so, you can click on Edit and edit the description for that particular service. Make sure that the description is in paragraph form, and is at least two to three sentences long. Click Save and Continue and this will send the service profile back to the queue for approval. I hope this helps!

Hi Donna! Unfortunately there is no way to upgrade the membership for free, but it is also not required in order to look for and secure jobs through the service. With the free membership you can still have a fully active profile, be available in search results for others to contact and apply to any of the positions that are listed in your area. Hi Joanne, a featured provider is an optional membership that can be chosen when you re actively looking for a position on the site. The featured membership provides care providers with additional tools on their profile. It increases the amount of families you are able to contact, allows you to see who has viewed your profile, boosts your profile higher in search results and gives you priority notification of the newest positions in your area. Hi Desiree! You can manage all of the jobs you applied to by going to your My Applications tab on your profile. Families have the ability to close out their ad once they have filled the position, and once that it done that particular job will show up as Closed in your account. It automatically gets moved to the bottom of your Jobs Applied list, so the positions that are still open will always be at the top of the list.

What advantages will your fee give Me?
I actually received a JOB OFFER pretty quickly after making contact with a possible employer on your web site-- to be a Nanny but then, after almost signing a contract with the parents--they decided "My fee was TOO EXPENSIVE." They posted what they were Willing/Wanted to pay--so this was very, puzzling! Any suggestions in this area?! I was willing to work at a lower rate but--they still said, it was "too much for them to pay." (Me)

I would like to see a field added that can be marked as "not interested" or "job not right for me" or "not qualified". I would also like to see the zip code added to the jobs list that is sent out instead of the distance, so you can tell right away if it's in your service area. And I agree with Susan J. The distance is usually way off mark.

It seems that I have sent messages to several families and I have not gotten a response I am not sure if they are getting them. It is funny that this article mentions the importance of updating your profile when I have done it several times but it only shows a part of my value statement and experience. I got tired of doing it over and over to see that it was not being accepted as I had wrote in several times. I am kind of disenchanted with the site

Is it necessary for me to give away my SSN here to pass background check? Im very sceptical about online info given, when a client ask me for that info so they can run my background first, so i always tell them that i'd rather meet them first in a public place
And hear me speak while they interview me. And then i dont hear from them again

I have applied to several child care positions in my area and always send them a little information about myself which includes that I even worked in the local school system with young children where as I had to be fingerprinted and have background clearance to work in that position. I would like to know if there is somewhere I can check to see if anyone is even viewing my profile or considering me at all because if I'm simply wasting my time I'd like to close out of care.com and put my energy where it would be better spent. I have not as of yet even received one response.

I don't understand why it would cost us money to get a job. I thought this website is to help those in need and not have enough money to pay fees. I have my own background check which I have paid. Requiring photos should be an optional. Once the client will contact us, then setting and appointment and meeting them is enough to see us in real. Economy is still bad these days. People are searching for jobs and it is always free when you sign up. But when you go to the websites details on how to get a job is outrageous and ridiculous, I mean some of the requirements. I think President Obama should take care of us and put a website free to all and will enable us to find and get a job immediately. Maybe I should email the White House.

The distance on my jobs are never correct. I made sure the correct zip code was placed and it is. For an example a job said it was 3 miles away and the job was actually 16 miles away. Its never correct for me.

This is a member care representative from Care.com. A profile can be pending approval for a number of reasons. Our most common reasons as to why a profile will not be approved include; spelling and grammar mistakes; the profile is typed in all capital letters; improper enrollment (not listed under the correct service type); and individuals advertising for multiple users. Additionally, a profile should not be listed in resume format. It should be listed in paragraph format with at least three full sentences. Hope that helps!

You can always confirm that your applications have gone through by viewing your sent items. You can find your sent items by clicking on the "My Messages" section on your account. In that section there will be a link to click on sent items. You can always send a follow up message as needed in that section as well!

How come my Child Care Propile is unable to approve. I've already check it and i don't see anything wrong with it. After some changes on it I don't understand and it so hard to contact you on phone everything is recording. Can you please give an answer regarding this matter.

Is there an area where I can see if the jobs I applied are being seen by those who I have contacted? I can't tell if anyone is even seeing it when I apply.

when you are responding to an advertisement does the spell check work ?
I selected "check spelling " several times but nothing happened .
